Lazy Cats, Ubud | An Urban Oasis in the Jungle
By Des Res Bali
Lazy Cats feels like stumbling into an artist’s loft where someone left the doors open and let Ubud’s jungle breeze wander in. It’s boho, it’s a little kitschy, it’s totally unpretentious — and somehow, it all comes together in the most effortlessly cool way.
The space is layered with plants, neon, mismatched cushions, and vintage-inspired everything. It feels a bit like Lower Haight in San Francisco or a corner of Bushwick where screenwriters meet over coffee and tapas, except here it’s wrapped in tropical air and sunlight. You never feel rushed. You might come in for a cappuccino and end up staying because your seat is too comfortable and the vibe is just that good.
Lazy Cats is early-era Alexis Dornier — before his signature modernist phase, back when he was experimenting with eclectic color and texture. It’s one of those places that doesn’t try to be Instagrammable but just is.
The food hits that same note: tasty, unfussy, and perfect for lingering. Tapas, coffee, cocktails and mocktails. Nothing is overly engineered — it’s just enjoyable.
Lazy Cats is made for staying awhile — the sort of place you sit down “for one” and forget to leave. Just remember to keep ordering — this is still a café, not your long-lost living room.
